  1. Is this event for me?
    1. If the word startup has already garnered your attention, then yes, this is for you. But with that said, this is for everyone, of all ages and backgrounds, who want to contribute ideas and work towards building a smarter Selangor.
    2. We don’t want to be exclusionary and only seek out startup-minded people, because we believe that there is a wealth of untapped ideas somewhere out there
  2. Is this only open to Malaysians?
    1. No, anyone of any nationality may enter.
  3. Is there an age limit?
    1. No, there isn’t, but it may not quite be suitable for young children under 14.
  4. Do I need to have knowledge in anything to attend?
    1. Not necessarily.
  5. Is it mandatory for me to attend both days of the event?
    1. Yes, you are expected to attend all days of the event. This is because we want to keep the momentum going, and also to reduce distractions or disruptions during working hours for teams.
  6. I already know everything about startups. Can I skip the pre-event workshop?
    1. No, as stated, the workshop is mandatory. We think that it is important for all participants who join this program to be on the same page before the start of the actual event; additionally, this gives all participants some buffer time to get acquainted with other participants and to socialise and plan ahead for the actual event.
  7. Do I have to settle my own food?
    1. No, we provide fully catered meals for the actual event and the pre-event workshop. Please inform us if you have any specific food restrictions when you sign up.
  8. How can I pay? Can I pay on the day itself?
    1. All payments are administered through our Eventbrite page ()
    2. All payments are done online via Paypal on Eventbrite, which accepts the following cards: Mastercard, Visa, AMEX, Discover, eCheck and Paypal.

    4. All payments are final and must be furnished before the stipulated cut-off time. This is important because we need to make logistics and food arrangements, which require early confirmation.
  9. How much do I have to pay to enter?
    1. RM 60.00
  10. Any special pricing?
    1. There is a 50% discount for students, who will need to show a valid matriculation card.
  11. Do I have to pay extra to attend the pre-event workshop?
    1. The pre-event workshop is worth RM 600, and we are providing it to you COMPLETELY FREE.

  13. What happens if I have paid but I cannot make it for some reason or another?
    1. By accepting to join this event and making payment, you understand that all payments are final and there will be no refunds available. This is because we need to confirm the headcount to prepare and purchase supplies and order catering.
    2. If you really cannot make it, don’t let it go to waste. Pass it on to someone else!
  14. I have no knowledge of programming or IT. Will this be a problem?
    1. No, such knowledge is not necessary here as nobody works alone and everyone is expected to be in a team.
  15. I have no knowledge of business. Will this be a problem?
    1. No, we will teach you the basics during the pre-event workshop.
  16. Is it mandatory for me to pitch an idea?
    1. No, because only a limited number of ideas can be worked on from the pool of available ideas. But you are most definitely encouraged to!
  17. Can I pitch more than one idea?
    1. Depending on the number of ideas pitched and the schedule, you may or may not be able to pitch multiple ideas. Prioritize your ideas: pitch your best idea (and the one you have most prepared for) first.
  18. Can I pitch my existing business?
    1. No. This is designed to build startups from the ground up, made by people who want to make a Smart difference to Selangor
  19. What kinds of ideas can I pitch?
    1. Any idea that is business-viable, related to Smart City living within a Selangor context and can be pitched for and represented by a working prototype that’s usually tech-oriented. This can be for profit, non-profit and even social businesses.
  20. Must I join a team?
    1. Everyone who attends the event as an attendee is expected to participate on a team. You can come alone, or you can come with your own team. The whole idea of the event is to work together with others to achieve a goal.
  21. What are the prizes like for the top 3 teams? refer-here
  22. What should I bring along with me?
    1. Laptop with power cable and other peripheral accessories
    2. Multi-plug point
    3. Business cards (if available)
    4. Something to keep you comfortable (like your favourite pillow)
  23. Is there a dress code I should adhere to?
    1. Not a strict one. Just wear something comfortable to last you from 9 am to 9 pm.
  24. Will accommodation be provided for me?
    1. Unfortunately, no. The SDCC is not equipped with resting or sleeping facilities, and participants are expected to arrange transport and accommodation on their own.

  25. How do I prepare?
    1. Do research about Smart City living and think about problems that Selangor faces that need solving. What problems do you, as a citizen face daily?
    2. Identify the issues that you think can be worked on
    3. Practise how to pitch in 60 seconds. The internet is abound with resources. Learn or utilise your resourcefulness
    4. Get a lot of rest prior to the 2 events
    5. Share the event with your friends and family! The more you bring along, the better!

Thank you for acting professionally and respectfully towards other participants, organisers and staff, as well as treating our beloved SDCC, our home, with adequate care and consideration. While we try to provide some necessities to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable, we wouldn’t be able to make it a successful and fun event without your thoughtfulness, respect and participation!
